Nagaya-mon of the Former Honda Family Residence
Nagaya-mon, ancienne porte de la résidence du clan Honda
The Honda clan was one of the eight chief retainer families of the Kaga domain (Kaga Hakka). This nagaya-mon, or longhouse gate, used to be part of the residence of the Honda Naiki family, a branch of the Honda clan. It dates back to the late-Edo period. Although its original location is unknown, it was moved twice before being rebuilt in its current location.
Nagaya-mon served as both guard posts and servants’ quarters. The chugen and komono, two types of servants, lived in the longhouse and worked as gatekeepers and attendants.
