Shofukaku Garden
Shofukaku Garden was constructed in the early-Edo period and is considered to be a stroll garden centered around a pond. The garden’s landscaping makes use of its natural environs, such as surrounding marshland and forest. The garden is older than Kenroken Garden, though it has undergone reconstruction in later years, and its Kasumigaike Pond predates the pond with the same name in Kenroken Garden.
The garden is located on the residence grounds formerly bestowed upon the Honda clan. The Honda clan was the primary family of the Kaga Hakka, or the eight chief retainer families of the Kaga Domain. The garden is invaluable as the sole garden related to the Kaga Hakka within Kanazawa.
