Shofukaku

Shofukaku (formerly the gotaimensho in the Hirosaka Ohiroshiki residence) and Munafuda

Maeda Nariyasu, the thirteenth head of the Kaga Domain’s Maeda clan, had a building constructed on the primary residence grounds of the Honda clan in 1834. The building, named the Hirosaka Ohiroshiki, was in commemoration of the marriage between his younger sister, Suzuhime, and the retainer Honda Masakazu. During the feudal period, ohiroshiki were residences for women. Shofukaku was the residence’s gotaimensho, a place used for in-person ceremonies. It was dismantled and relocated three times, the last of which was in 1907 when it was moved to its current location.
Shufukaku is the only building within Kanazawa that was part of the residences of the eight chief retainer families of the Kaga Domain (Kaga Hakka).
