Myokokuji Temple Sanmon
Kanazawa City Designated Cultural Property
English
According to records this sanmon (“main gate”) was built in 1780, making it the oldest main gate of all the temples that carry historical plaques located at the foot of Utatsuyama. It was built with a “Yakui-mon” style frame structure in a plain and unadorned style. Research has revealed that the adjoining walls originally had shingled roofs, which were restored accordingly. The red tiles remaining on the roof, which are resistant to the cold, along with the carefully excavated, examined, and restored approach to the temple invoke the atmosphere of a time long gone.
