Shogetsuji Temple Cherry Blossom Tree
National Natural Monument
English
It is said that the Shogetsuji Temple cherry tree was planted there in 1648 by Maeda Toshitsune (the third generation lord of the Kaga Domain) during his retirement.
The tree was highly respected during the Edo period (1603~1867), and it is said that even processions of feudal lords bowed their heads and laid down their spears underneath the tree in respect.
The tree’s leaves and flowers are both large, with the diameter of its flowers reaching 4 to 4.5 cm in length.
