The temple bell of Shorinji Temple was made in 1677 by the first generation Miyazaki Kanchi. He was a famous metal caster in the first half of the 17th century. He studied the art of crafting chagama (tea kettles used during tea ceremony) in Kyoto, and later served under the Kaga Clan, where he left behind many outstanding works of art.
This temple bell is one of his creations, and is highly regarded for the beauty of its copper alloy and the quality of its sound.
