Sankinro
Building Designated by Kanazawa City for External Preservation
English
Sankinro is a traditional Japanese ryotei restaurant built at the end of the 19th century.
It was originally a two-story building, but after several additions and renovations, it became a three-story building with one additional basement floor. When viewed from the river side, it appears to be a four-story building. The building’s appearance is typical of modern Japanese architecture based on Japanese machiya townhouses.
While many three-story ryotei and ryokan were built around this time, few still exist, making the building a valuable part of the historical landscape here in Hamagurizaka.
